Serenade of Storm and Loon

Lightning blazes across the lake.
The loons cry.
Thunder rumbles and roars across
the dark sky.

Power flickers and finally dies.
Our candle lights.
Baby sisters whimper in fear
of dark nights.

Father and I sit knee-to-knee
on covered chair,
watching the rain upon the lake,
a vision rare.

Storm beats power and man-made roads,
and yet still,
despite the worst of winds and rain,
the loons trill.

Author's Note: This one is based on a memory of a real experience during my childhood, at a cabin in northern Wisconsin.
