In the Twilight

In the evening twilight/ I was told of your dying/ But I didn't need told cause I felt it in my own aching heart/ In misted over eyes I'd seen you fight/ against the watery grave/ You didn't fight long, your energy all gone to waste/ I had seen you die, your lungs had filled up fast/ Your eyes were all bulged out/ I wanted to scream and I wanted to shout/ I wanted to pound your back/ I wanted you back/ So I could know to say I love you one last time/ I don't know if you know how sorry I am that I turned down lunch with you/ We were all blue and purple from picking berries and I was ashamed/ Embarrassed of us, looking like duds/ Now I'm sad because I wouldn't have minded one more hour with you/ And now here I am, all mopsey and sad as I write this song about you/ I would give anything to just have you back for the day/ I'd tell you everything and maybe change your mind about going windsurfing/ In that case, I could have you back for more than one day/ I used to think about how annoying you were but now I'd kill for a Halloween card/ I'm finished with this song and in this twilight I'm gonna go sit down and weep.
