An- this poem's been sitting around on my harddrive being annoying for like...a month now. I finally just gave up and posted it; if I waited for it to start coming out right I'd be here all year.
Oddly enough, the incident it's about took place during my freshman year of high school....and now that I'm going into my senior year, I'm actually writing about it. Talk about a delayed reaction.
Keep your eyes shut
So maybe you didn’t understand what she was saying;
(can’t be blamed for that, for girls who speak in t.o.n.g.u.e.s.)
But did you never see the slightest hint
(justaglimpse)
of something --horrible-- lurking in her eyes?
Maybe you missed the blood running rivers from her life;
it was a train blaring past your window, but (maybe) you overslept.
I suppose they couldn’t find you a willing participant…
(:the defendant is found not guilty.)
I’m sorry. I never did mean to accuse.
It’s just that her earthquake-conscience used to belch off steam, warning signals—
didn’t you notice when she handed you her heart?
(all slippery and oozing, stained over with her voice)
I guess not.
That’s ok.
Maybe you blinked.
