The baby sat there, looking up at Wes with his mismatched pair of eyes. He wondered if he should tell Wes or not, unsure if what he did in Wes’ absence was particularly special or unordinary. Wes was looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to say that he had a long nap. He chewed first on his hotdog before slowly, he began to speak.

“I’m not certain whether what I’m about to announce is peculiar or not,” the little baby proclaimed. Wes still got caught off guard. The voice emanating from the baby was that of someone older, the depth of the voice disturbing him just slightly after seeing whom possessed it.

“Well,” the baby continued, “I thought long and hard about this.”

Wes was confounded. “What did you think about, baby?” The little child cringed the moment Wes called him ‘baby’.

“That. I thought long and hard about that. Why do you call me baby?” he asked exasperatedly, frowning all too obviously.

“Because you’re a baby,” Wes replied tactlessly.

The baby tried to stand up on its miniscule feet but stumbled awkwardly, and he settled to sitting inelegantly with his legs far apart.

“You know very well that I’m more than just a baby,” he said, a bit of anger seeping into his voice. Wes slightly felt inferior to this particular toddler. He was rarely able to put such command into his own voice. He nodded in agreement.

“Just tell me what you did, bab-“ his voice died in his mouth as the baby glowered at him. The baby resumed to speak.

“Okay. While you were off on your gallant quest for…hotdogs, I was thinking of getting a name for myself.”

Wes blinked. The baby replied his look with another statement. “You didn’t actually think I was going to be stuck with ‘baby’, were you?”

The baby waited for an answer. The small, guilty expression on Wes’ face practically shouted ‘YES’. The baby sighed. “What did you think of?” Wes questioned in an effort to make up for his blunder.

“I actually thought of several,” the baby said in a matter-of-factly tone. “But I think I’m going to stick with one of them.”

“Well, what is it?” Wes asked, a bit excited.

“Adam.”
