Burning Sapphires

A pale ocean

A deep blue sea

A living tapestry

A beautiful gem

That twirls itself

Tighter and tighter

Around a black hole

A never ending display

Of wondrous beauty

Lost, deep beneath

The cold black depths

At the center.

When first they caught

My own blue spheres

I found myself

Entranced

Drawn in

To a soul

That exploded like

A bursting star

And yet that star

Was so soothingly cold

It’s oceans left me

So pacified

And I lost myself in them

And all that was left

Was my reflection

Staring back at me.

And from the first time

That the oceans boiled over

And from them burst

Hot torrents

Floods of sorrow

I myself felt less alive

Than if I had been torn apart

And burned up in a fire

And overcome with passion

I struggled, once more in vain

To end the flood of sorrow

But I could not end

What I had caused

And in time, would cause

Again.

With the passing days

The torrents came more often

But less fierce

And with each flood

The water became more bitter

The flood turned from sorrow

To anger

And soon to fear

And soon enough

The floods

Never came at all.

How long has it been

Since I have gazed

Upon the spheres

That I so love

And gazing deep

Found myself, again

But for me, the floods

Are long since passed

And all they’ve left

Is a subtle regret

To know that I

I never told you

You hide the greatest gems of Earth

Every time you close

Your eyes.
