I watched part of you

Die away day by day

I felt your sorrow,

Touched your shock and pain.

I held you as you cried

And tried to stop the tears.

Together we fed off mutual pain

Comforting, needing, only each other.

-

Now you have come alive

A little more day by day

I feel your happiness

I touch your excitement and joy

I sit with you as you live

And encourage your laughter.

No longer must you feed off pain

You can go into the world free.

-

I should be elated

I should revel in your glory

I should be thankful

That your pain is waning.

Instead, I feel broken.

I feel unneeded, unnecessary

Only a relic from your previous life.

A poem about my mom and that fact that she's got a new boyfriend who I hate simply because now she doesn't need me as much as she did before.
