Chapter Twenty

Lamar and Susan walked into school with smiles on both of their faces. They were both happy. Lamar was happy because he was going to be a father, even though the child was not his. And Susan was happy because Lamar was going to be there for her no matter what.

Lamar held Susan's hand and led her downstairs to the cafeteria. They walked in together.

"How about you go and find us a table and I will get you something to eat," Lamar said walking through the crowd of people. "What do you wanna grub on?"

Susan laughed. She sat down at a table that was already full. "Just get me something good please."

Lamar looked in her eyes. "Alright. I'll be right back." He kissed her on the lips. "I love you. I can't wait until our baby gets here."

She looked back in his eyes. She kissed his lips softly. "You are the love of my life and I'm so happy that I found you. I love you Lamar."

"Did you hear the news?..."

"Susan's pregnant!..."

"Yeah but I heard it's not Lamar's baby..."

"I heard it was her ex, what's his name?..."

"That kid Ricky!..."

"I can't believe it..."

"Why would Lamar stay with her?..."

All throughout the day, that's what the talk of the school was. Susan's pregnancy was spreading fast and she couldn't stand it. It was starting to stress her out completely.

She was sitting down on Lamar's bed almost in tears.

"I can't take this shit anymore!" She screamed at no one. "That's all people do is talk shit! What's going on is none of their fuckin' business!"

"Baby calm down," Lamar said touching her arm lightly.

"I'm not gonna calm down!" She said loudly.

There was a knock on the door. Lamar opened it and in came his mother. She looked at the couple.

"Everything okay?" She asked when she saw the tears in Susan's eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Just, people. They are spreadin' rumors."

Lamar's mother already knew about Susan's pregnancy, and the fact that her son was going to support her and then go to school on top of that, made her extremely happy. She couldn't wait to become a grandmother.

Lamar's mother spoke up, "Don't let them get to you. They are probably just jealous. You have to not let it stress you out. It'll be best for both you and the baby."

"You're right," Susan said wiping her eyes. "I'm not gonna let them get to me. All I need is Lamar and you. No one else."

Lamar's mother kissed her forehead, as if she was already her daughter. "And that's all you need. We're your family now. I'm always gonna be here for you and you know Lamar will be too. The family is completely behind you."
