THE LIGHT OF ORION

Prologue

“Sir.”

“Yes?”

“It’s ready.”

Those two words, those two, simple words, were all that were needed. Malanin was filled with a firm, ecstatic energy. “Gather the others, let’s go.”

“Yes, sir.”

Malanin’s apprentice hurried down the main corridor of the lab, towards the bunk rooms. Moments later, Malanin’s comrades appear weary, but ready. The room started buzzing with questions.

“So soon?”

“Are you sure?”

“Impossible.”

But, of course, it was possible. Walking towards the holding chamber, Malanin opened the door.

“What is this?” A young female by the name of Rayne asked. The others agreed.

For, there was nothing in the room. Melanin spoke, “Ladies and gentlemen, calm down. If you would just step behind the screen to your left.” Malanin requested.

No one moved.

“Please, just humor me,” he said.

Everyone walked behind the lens. Suddenly, the screen came to life. A giant orb was in the screen. The entire screen was lit with an orange light, the orb being the brightest.

“What is it?” Syble, a well trusted member of the crew asked.

“A light,” Malanin replied.

“A light? What light? There is no light. We are standing behind a screen, a clear screen! What’s going on?” Charlemagne, the final member of the crew, ranted.

“This light is very different, for you see, only a warrior can see it and use its power. The power of ultimate strength. This light was given to me seven years ago. In these seven years I have created this screen that you are behind now,” Malanin finished.

“Seven years to make one screen?” Rayne marveled.

“This screen is made of a very interesting material. Very fragile, it had to be taken slowly,” Malanin replied.

“What?” Rayne countered.

“The eyes of true warriors. Thus being the only way to see the light,” Malanin replied. “And now for a test.”

A pair of soldiers came out carrying an unconscious man.

“Wield the power of the light!” Malanin ordered.

One of the soldiers grabbed the light; the other grabbed the man. The soldier with the light stared at the man. Then, suddenly, the man fell to the floor in pieces. Gasps filled the room.

“With this light comes four amazing kinetic abilities. The one you have just seen I like to call Matter-Mind.”

Applause filled the room, followed by a sudden rumbling. Suddenly, the orb exploded. Three separate pieces of the orb flew through the room. One piece went through each of Malanin’s partners. A power surged through them. Then, amazingly, the orb remolded itself. Then it hovered there in the room silently.

“Is anyone hurt?” Malanin called out to his lost companions.

“We’re fine,” called Rayne from far across the room.

“This orb is too dangerous for us to let out,” Charlemagne yelled. The group agreed, and they took the light away. They stored it in the safest place they could find. They made the new home of the light the Volcano of Light!
