This was a rebuttal of sorts from a dear friend who lacks an understanding of English grammar.

BRAVO LAURA! You have just given the best representation of the active atheist point of view. The point you neglect is that you can niether prove or disprove the existence of god no better then I can. With that in mind I go back to what I had told you before about absolutes. You fear them. Without any god you have no sense of right and wrong, thus making it easier to just not care and do what FEELS good not whats only one thing worse then their being no point to life, or a that life is meaningless, is not being able to find apoint to life. Both science and religion prove you wrong in this aspect, in the least we know the meaning of life is to multiply in its most basic form, survive.
Even if you dont believe in a god you have been indirectly influenced by his belief. Your whole basic beliefs in right and wrong come from the laws of this country that your family and you have grown up learning to follow. What is the foundation of those laws? Judeio-christian values. Those beliefs that all christians and jews follow. Like murder is wrong, stealing is wrong, and rape is WRONG. Do you agree? Because if you do you may be following the good book unwittingly. Think about it.
You are correct that power corrupts, that the world is a scary place of ABSOLUTES, and that religion like anything else can be used to control. But you are wrong to their not being a meaning to life. Their is always point to life even if you cant see it yet, you will just keep your eyes open, not shut.
I believe in god for the more optimistic opposite for your unbelief in Him, you can not kill or disprove Him. I have been in enough situations to know that there is more then luck or fate looking out for me.I believe in absolutes, right and wrong and such. I have my own beliefs on the Greek Orthodox religion that I believe in as well. I also know I'm blessed in many ways as well. If I didnt believe in these things. I wouldnt be who I am today or have joined the army to defend what I believe.
In short Laura, you make some great points, but your overlooking some others. Your young and you'll see as you go down the road. And one final question. What makes a good or bad person? My intent is not to come off scathing so take what I say with a grain of salt. You know I say this with love and understanding that you will one day see the light.
