She

She’s shooting the needle through her skin again

She knows the feeling electrifying her veins

She covers her arms with makeup that hides the reality

She picks up the phone, it’s a new client

She dresses in bare lingerie, invites him over

She flashes a smile, swings her hips at his sight

She kisses him, the man she’s known for ten minutes already

She knows he’s hungry for more, lets him strip her body

She pulls his pants down low, grinding her hips, pushing her tongue further down his throat

She writhes in the tangled sheets of her bed, sweat already coating her limbs

She lets him touch her

She’s done this so many times she’s empty of emotion

She’s looking for her dignity, where did it go?

She is as stripped and naked on the inside as on the outside

She knows it’s wrong, but this has simply been her lifestyle for so long

She doesn’t feel anymore

She lets out a moan as he slides into her, not of pleasure but of pain

She wonders if he knows the difference

She closes her eyes, waits for it to be over

She pulls on her clothes after, pretends to have enjoyed it

She accepts the money, the only thing she’s here for

She watches him pull on his pants and leave, never to be seen again

She sighs and spritzes on perfume instead of a shower

She counts her money and heads out

She ducks into a back alley in the shadiest part of town

She exchanges her notes for her precious drugs

She’s got what she came for, with nothing left

She goes back to her apartment, sits on the bed

She’s shooting the needle through her skin again…
