-Prologue-

It was raining heavily and growing darker by the second as Alec Cunningham looked at the slick, icy road ahead. He sighed tiredly. The weather was bad enough, but that combined with the fact that they’d been driving almost all night long and who was at the wheel, and he couldn’t help but be slightly worried.

“Are you sure you don’t want to slow down a little? I mean, we’re already late as it is.”

“Look, I know what I’m doing.”

Alec glanced at his best friend skeptically.

“Evan, that’s what you always say.”

“And have I been wrong yet?” Alec scoffed.

“Let’s see…how about that time you nearly got us killed on your motorcycle? Or that time when you---”

Evan rolled his eyes.

“Okay, okay. I give up...you’ve just gotta trust me on this one.”

Alec gave him a pointed look, but he knew there was no use trying to argue with Evan since he always gave in anyway.

“Just trust me.”

Those were the last words Alec heard before the car swerved, hitting a nearby tree and he blacked out.

-.-.-

Three Months Later

Alec groaned as he reached to rub his throbbing forehead. Wincing at the brightness of the lights overhead, he slowly opened his eyes and observed his surroundings. The room was small with white walls and a simple window. As he looked around, he realized the room was filled with various gifts from well-wishers. Alec crinkled his nose at the scent of flowers mixed with the clinical smell of antiseptic that filled the air.

“What the hell am I doing in a hospital?”

Sighing, he rolled on his side, ignoring the aching feeling in his body and tried to go back to sleep. Maybe things would be better when he woke up again.

“Sir! Sir, you can’t go in there right now!”

Alec could hear yelling and the squeaking of shoes running on the hospital floors, so he buried his head in his pillow in an attempt to drown out the noise. That was when the door to his room slammed open.

“Alec!”

He looked up to see a young man with concerned green eyes and a disheveled appearance at his bedside.

“You’re awake! How’re you feeling?”

“I--I’m sorry, do I know you?” Alec had a confused look on his face and Evan felt his world crashing beneath him.

-.-.-.-.-

It’s a bit short, but I have a lot planned for this story if people find it interesting enough. Please review and tell me what you think.
