Arrogance

(a thematic poem of arrogance in the book “Night” Elie Wiesel)

We had heard some rumors

That the end was coming near.

We did not believe them,

So we pretended not to hear.

Then I heard a story

From someone that I knew,

And then I figured out

That those rumors were all true.

I knew we had to leave,

But they wouldn’t dare.

I could not desert them,

So I just stayed there.

The Demonic Nightmares came

And brought pain unto us all.

My parents tried to get away

And I was forced to watch them fall.

Their arrogance blinded them

And their minds were all deceived.

They could not see the truth-

The truth that saved me.
