Shadow Smothered Moon

Marching flames through cities of dust

Lick the parched skies

Crimson in the shame of their defeat

Rivaling the glories of sunrise

-

As the fires dwindle and thin

As the firmament turns to black

I hear the wind scream a dirge

Through lonely mountain crags

-

Piercing as a flute of bone

This slow and solemn tune

The pale stars all in mourning

For the shadow smothered moon
