Don’t be afraid to do what you want to do, because there will always be a reason not to, and the more you allow those reasons to get in the way, the more likely it is that you’ll wake up one day, realise that you’re 40 and no closer to fulfilling your dream than you were at 20. There’s no rule that says you have to aspire to be the first person to walk on Mars, or find a cure for cancer; as long as your dream is your own, it is as worthy as any other. Yes, things will get in the way, these are not obstacles but the elements of your life, the memories you will keep. And yes, things change, people change, dreams change. Maybe at 15 you wanted to be a rock star, then at 35 you wanted to be a lawyer. That’s ok. And it’s ok if you get to 65 and want to be a rock star all over again. What is important is that you do not allow yourself to become a passive observer of your own life. Do not cling to the familiar, but throw yourself into the unknown, because though you may make mistakes, though you may fail entirely, you can come out at the end of it all knowing that you tried; and while there are many people who regret not fulfilling their dreams, no one ever regretted the chase.
