Morning from an Airplane

Flying at night is supposed to
lessen your sleep loss-
but for me that never worked.
A window seat was an invitation
to insomnia, an incredible view of such
peaceful emptiness, dark ocean spread below
over seemingly endless depths.
Our jetstream pulled through clouds and thin air,
chasing the sunrise.
From sixty thousand feet up, I watched the morning star
paint a pale stripe across the midnight blue horizon,
sending a gentle spectrum through the sky.
An awe-inspiring view, as if from Heaven itself.
