Midnight from the Highway

A car ride throught the Northeast
is no excuse for a night spent
stargazing, but for me, it was
as close as it got.
The stars seemed like pinpricks
in a midnight blue curtain,
held over a dazzling brightness, so
as not to blind us. Staring up, my
face pressed against cold glass,
I wondered what the view was like
from Heaven, and if God was in fact
just behind the curtain in the brightness,
or here on our side, enjoying his
pinprick painting, a divine masterpiece
in our blue-black sky.
