Gathering Darkness, Fading Hope
Everything seems to be slipping away
Time stops until another day
Suddenly you know this isn't a play
And you're forced to find some way
To hold strong and keep things together
Caught in a world of disbelief
Where an eternity equals a moment
Can't quite find the right words to say
The room feels entirely too silent
Your mouth moves; you try to speak
Nothing comes out, and you feel weak
It's all you can do not to cry
And keep the fear bottled up inside
While the surreal scene unfolds in your mind's eye
You have to be strong; you can not falter
There are some things you just can't alter
Gradually the darkness closes in
And your hope and faith are being spread much too thin
The tears are still gathering in your eyes
And all you want to do is run and fly
Far, far away, through the sky
Maybe you'll pretend it's all been just a dream
Sometimes you only want badly to scream
Your life has taken a turn for the worse
It feels as though you've got a curse
The ship has sunk below the waves
And the world is slowly going dark
No longer is there any spark
As the light fades
You think they might have made a mistake
And hope in the process your heart doesn't break
But deep down, you know it's real
You don't truly know how you're supposed to feel
Or whether you will ever be able to fully heal
All you know is you have to try to get through the ordeal
An uncertain future is what you face
It's tough, but you've made a promise to do it with grace
