Prescribed Pills
"Here. Take this." A nurse handed her a cup with two pills in it.
She wrinkled her nose. "Why?"
The nurse sight. "Too help with your shakes."
"Why?"
This time she didn't respond and gave her a dixie cup filled with water, urging her to take her pills. The girl didn't want to take them, but under the watchful eye of the nurse, she didn't dare hide them again. After she took them in one mouthful, she set the cup to the side and stuck her tongue out.
"Yucky."
"The nurse nodded absently and adjusted the girl's pristine white sheets. "Too much sun?"
"It's hot. My bed's hot. Make the sun go away." She pouted.
The nurse fixed the white blinds to block out the sun before leaving and closing the door behind her with a soft click.
-------------------
"How is she?"
"What do you want me to say? She's perfectly sane and you can take her home as long as she takes her vitamens?" the nurse asked sarcastically.
He glared. "Is there at least an improvement."
"Maybe if she took her pills all the time there would be."
"You mean she's not-"
"The other nurse found at least a week's worth of pills under her pillow yesterday."
He cast her a confused look.
"She doesn't want to get better," she explained. "Well, at least, the new her doesn't want to."
"I don't understand."
"She's mental. And she wants to stay that way. I think she believes it's her only escape from what happened to her."
"I want to see her."
"All right, but it's not pretty."
---------------
He walked in and she screamed, fear filling her eyes.
"No! No! Not again...! Don't put me in there! Don't lock me in there... Not in that box! NO!"
"Calm down! Nurses!"
Several nurses rushed in and restrained her. He smiled. He'd never get sick of seeing her like this... Reduced to a frightened mental patient.
"I don't know why she has such a violent reaction to you; I mean, you are her husband!"
"What do you expect? My twin brother abducted her and did awful things to her..." He shook his head. "I can't blame her."
"No, no, no..." she whimpered. "Keep him away..."
The nurses hushed her a few times before leaving them alone to talk.
He stepped closer and tears dripped down her face.
"Have you missed me, love?"
She shook her head frantically, fight against her restraints.
"Now that's not very nice... Maybe you want to go back in your box again?"
She screamed. He trailed a finger down her cheek and smiled wickedly.
"Make sure you take your pills, thistle. I want you to get better. Fast," he told her leaning in towards her face.
She was sobbing now and her whole fragile frame was shaking with the force of them. Her breathing was heavy and irregular and she felt like she was going to be sick. He pressed a seemly tender kiss against her cold lips. She hiccupped softly, trying to avoid his touch. He reached for the pal by the side of her bed and put it in front of her just as she got sick. He knew her so well, he thought as he rubbed her back.
"It'll be all right," he soothed. "You'll get better and then, I'll be able to take you home."
Her eyes widened as the meaning of his words hit her hard. She fought the restraints once more, desperate to escape him.
"You'll get better."
She thrashed about wildly and he released her, calling for the nurses again.
He'd let her go.
For now.
