A cursed tale
How could I have known?
Why couldn't I tell?
That his heart she wold own
And my own a tiny bell.
We were both friends;
He hated her every bit.
She wanted to make amends;
And he fell for it.
She kissed like a queen;
Her eyes black and keen.
My chances were lean;
I should have seen.
I loved him so,
But it was not meant to be
He told me no;
Why didn't I see?
He was under a spell;
She had cursed him forever.
He would never get well;
She was too clever.
Their friendship became love,
All too quickly.
And innocent as a dove,
I did nothing silently.
But I kissed him one evening,
It was sweet with sorrow.
he told me he was leaving,
He would be gone tomorrow.
I told him I loved him;
He answered with disbelief.
His eyes were dim;
I was filled with grief.
He walked away;
I never said goodbye.
And to this day,
I can't but cry.
They died that night,
In a flash and a bang.
They had had a fight,
As all the angels sang.
Why? I do know
He wanted her no more.
She couldn't let go,
So she ended it with gore.
In his last moments,
It became sure.
He had been sent
To be used by her.
He left me standing there,
Cold and hard as stone.
But he will never be aware,
I share his curse alone.
I suffer to this day;
My heart dies slowly.
The days have turned gray;
I am so lonely.
Thirty years later, out of the blue
I received a letter from the dead.
It spoke of a day,
Before he lay on his deathbed
He would never forget to say,
That he loved me too.
