Azure Dreams

Walking on shells washed in from an eye coloured sea.
Azure dreams on secret wings whisper in the warm breeze,
I checked the wreckage, and the black box told me
why you’d been hiding in the shoals.
You’d been hiding from unintending jaws,
and I’d been lured in by a broken song.

Crushed, you had been beached
and left to feel the emptiness of
what had just been leeched.
You forgot what air was like.
You were clothed in only sand.

I’ll sing every note you miss.
I will clothe you with a kiss.
If you fit into the sleeves,
I’ll show you what it is to breathe.

We can dream azure dreams or go (slip away for the night)
swimming in between the sheets. (Dream of a recovery)
I’ll take scissors to the shadows that weigh you (slip away for the rest of your life)
down to bed with reefs. (Enjoy love and rediscovery)

Like a siren you call,
like a beansidhe you cry.
I followed the clarion call.
I heeded them all.
I needed them all.

So you had lost the fight with the current,
and I’d been called in by a fading smile.

Helpless on the shore
waiting to be introduced to
new worlds filled with more.
You were cold and by yourself.
You forgot what legs were for.

I’ll light up when you unlock.
I’ll re-teach you how to walk.
If your newest steps take form,
I’ll pull you closer, keep you warm.

You could pry my fingers from yours or, (let slip, let slip)
go soaring where we would lie. (Just dream, just dream)
Let’s lay awake in water, dream azure, (let slip, let slip)
fall asleep to fly. (I love your rediscovery…)
