You don’t have to speak;

In silence all words can be spoken.

Your gestures fail at subtlety;

I can read your thoughts

As easily as you can fake a smile.

---

I had no hidden agenda,

And, observant as you are,

You thought the opposite.

Chased me away, turned me away

So many times.

---

You say I don’t know you,

But it’s often that you forget to wear your mask,

It’s often that you forget that you’re human,

Like me, and feel even when you don’t want to,

Hurt even if you don’t want to.

---

I know you just as I know

My own face in the mirror,

(My own blood when I taste it),

And how it feels to be repeatedly cast aside

By the one I love.

---

You’re not the enemy.

You’re just a milestone.
