“Selective Memory”

There is nothing like the night

To make a girl feel lonely

Without the company of a lover

The pleasure of darkness is lost

The shadows become less friendly

And the fire is hollow in emotion

Reminding you of a different flame

Felt deep within your soul

The spark in her eyes is dimming

And the silence she bears is stronger

For the love she feels consumes her

And her heart is with another

Her days seem empty

And time slows to a crawl

When her love cannot be with her

And they can’t even speak at all

Thank heavens those days are numbered

Since only just one has passed

And the only one she’ll remember

Is when she is home at last
