Watch You Suffer

I knew this day would come,

when I would have to succumb-

to all your fear,

your pain,

your hate.

I tried to fool myself,

like I always do.

But as I sat and watched you cry,

I realized-

this was all my fault.

For once,

I didn’t have an answer-

I couldn’t help you mend.

Helpless…

lost…

I could only sit and watch you suffer-

feeling all your pain as if it were my own,

along with the guilt I felt myself,

for leaving you to suffer here alone…

Thinking of the way you must feel

and feeling all the guilt in me,

brings me to the brink-

the very brink of tears.

If I could,

I would turn back the hands of time-

sacrifice my happiness-

all for you to have peace of mind.

But still,

I have to sit and watch you suffer,

feeling all your pain as if it were my own

along with the guilt I felt myself,

for leaving you to suffer here alone…

I’m so sorry.

I never meant for this to be.

It just happened.

And though I know I can’t,

I only wish,
