“Because You’re Not Here”

Tears spring to my eyes

As I think about you not with me

I know you’re never far away

But the silence is killing me now

My heart pains as I dream of you

And I wake up whispering your name

All I can do is wait to return

To speak with you again

I cannot eat and sleep is hard

So I daydream of you instead

Since I have no interest in anything at all

I will write to you of nothing
I would walk the beach

Holding your hand

If only you were here

I could stay our late

And watch the stars

If only you were here

I would light a fire

And talk to you all night

If only you were here

We could snuggle in close

And kiss each other goodnight

If only you were here

There would be no reason

To cry at night

If only you were here

I could find no reason

Not to smile

If only you were here

But lonesome as I am

And lonely I will be

Because you can’t be here

So I’ll tell the stars

And the moon and the sea

That I miss my love so much

So maybe they can be

My lonely company

Since you’re not here with me
