Chapter Two

Had it been that Mary had been friends with any one else, then perhaps it would have been acceptable, but for any person apart of the Minou line, also known as the French line, no witch could befriend an enemy, and the Minou Line’s enemy was the Vampire.

Mary had left Florianne’s house with rapid speed to arrive in the center of the small town that she lived in. The fountain sprouted up, and around her she could see many things, including bakeries and small houses, stalls left vacant after a long days work. Human lives were so much more complicated, and so many shades of gray that a witches, or vampire’s life, was not.

The auburn haired girl, almost a woman, brushed her fingers into the glistening water as it circled the center of the fountain. “Why, oh why Tanny couldn’t it be me.” She whispered to herself as she pulled back her wet hand. She placed it against her legs as silent tears drifted down her face. She didn’t often let her past haunt her so, but she needed to let it out for once.

She got up wiping the tears before turning from the fountain. The many times she had spent here had all been the same, grievance after grievance, all about one person. She stood there staring at the moon, pouring down on her. She had to find her mark, but knew that tonight she would not kill anyone, not even a vampire.

“Contemplation?” The voice behind Mary was so familiar that she didn’t bother to turn around. She nodded slowly looking at the sky still. “And for what?” He asked when she didn’t reply.

Silence filled, and she thought he had left until something cold touched her shoulder pulling her around. “And for what does Mary contemplate?” He asked his hand at the small of her back. Mary Rachel smiled slightly, but didn’t respond. “Does she contemplate her friendship?” Jon asked tickling her lightly. She giggled and tried to pull away, but he held her.

“Or does she contemplate her virtues?” He said continuing to tickle her. She pulled her close suddenly against his body before looking her directly in the eyes, “Or her sister?” He asked almost sadly. Mary’s smile disappeared, her face going flat

“Perhaps I contemplate why Jon holds me so close when he loves another witch,” she replied her face smug. He nodded before releasing her, understanding what she implies. “You must be looking for me, why is that?” Mary asked once he had cleared enough distance to not touch her.

“I have word for you,” Jon replied, his voice very careful. Mary didn’t catch the implications and smiled for a moment.

“From whom?” She asked playfully. Jon looked around for a moment as they walked down an alleyway. Jon looked a little unconformable. Mary paused her playful look to regard him wondering if he was going to answer.

“My father,” Jon said stiffly. His eyes turned to Mary who had froze a couple steps back. He returned to her side incase she could not stand.

“Adrien?” Mary asked, her eyes were moving back and forth as if wondering if she had missed something. She released her knees suddenly and Jon caught her flawlessly.

“Yes, Adrien,” Jon said pulling her against him. Mary looked more like a child now than a woman. She had 18 years and she looked more like she had 7. Jon flickered himself and Mary into a room of red. He placed her onto a couch before getting up for water.

He returned giving her the glass. “What is the message,” Mary whispered. Jon either didn’t hear her or didn’t act as if he heard her.

“What did you say?” Jon asked looking at her for a moment. His expression was searching hers.

“What is the damn message?!” She shouted. Jon jumped for a moment before nodding.

“He wants to meet you,” Jon answered. Mary watched him as if he was crazy before speaking.

“So be it.”
