How the Saber-Tooth Tiger Lost His Teeth

A/N: Creation story I had to write for history my freshman year. Got a good kick out of it and decided to put it on here. Yes, I do know it's very elementary style. I wrote it like that on purpose. Plus, it's kinda funny that way.

The saber-tooth tiger was the meanest cat around. No body messed with him because of his long sharp teeth. He was very cocky and always walked around flashing his giant chompers.

One day the forest spirit Mochakto decided to inspect her lands to make sure all was right and peaceful. When she arrived to the land where saber-tooth tiger lived, she could sense that everything was not right. No creatures would come out to see her.

"Why will no one come to see me?" She asked herself, "Surely all of the creatures here would come out to greet and honor their god."

She explored the area to see why all of the creatures were in hiding. That is when she ran into saber-tooth tiger. As he walked through the forest even the trees themselves shivered with fear because of his great claws and especially his long teeth. Forest Spirit Mochakto was not pleased with his cockiness. She appeared to saber-tooth tiger as a hawk and began to question him.

"Where has everyone gone?" Mochakto hawk asked him. "Creatures were created to be seen, but no one will even go to greet the great forest spirit Mochakto who has been inspecting her lands today."

"Stupid hawk." Saber-tooth tiger responded, "I am the greatest predator who ever lived. No one will come out because they fear me, and that is how it should be. I am the only one worthy enough of seeing the great forest spirit Mochakto because I am ruling this land."

"You are the stupid one." Mochakto hawk retorted. "Great spirit Mochakto wants to see her creatures. She will be angry with you if you do not stop scaring everyone for your own pleasure." With that, Mochakto hawk flew off into the clouds to observe what saber-tooth would do.

Saber-tooth merely mumbled to himself, "What would a bird-brained hawk know? He must surely have no idea what he is talking about. Perhaps I will make everyone come out to greet Mochakto though, just in case." He looked up and growled, "If you do not come out now I will eat you, for I am bigger, stronger, and have much bigger teeth than you."

A lone muskrat slowly crawled out of a nearby bush. "What would you like?" He quivered like the rattle of a baby rattlesnake, "Please do not eat me, for I have a family at home."

Saber-tooth laughed inwardly to himself at the fear of the muskrat. "I will not eat you for now. I want you to tell everyone in the forest to be aware of great spirit Mochakto's coming and go to greet her when she comes. Anyone who does not go to see her I will eat."

The poor muskrat nodded and thanked him for being spared. Quickly running through the brush, muskrat told everyone what saber-tooth had said and told them to tell their family and friends.

Mochakto was not happy with saber-tooth tiger, for he was still trying to use intimidation to get what he wanted. She soared down to the forest and transformed into a roan deer with a limp leg. She lay down next to a large rock and started crying for help.

Saber-tooth tiger was on his way to greet forest spirit Mochakto and came up with stories that he would tell her so that she would think everything was right and peaceful. He heard roan deer Mochakto moaning and went to see who it was. When he saw her lying there, he stayed in the shadows so that she would not see him and yelled out to her, "What is the matter roan deer? Why are you all alone, for deer typically travel in groups."

Forest spirit Mochakto replied, "I am but a lone deer. I was on my way to see the great forest spirit Mochakto and worship her, but I fell and injured my leg. I fear that saber-tooth tiger will eat me because I could not go see her. I have done no wrong against him, but anyone who does not go to see her will be eaten. Who are you and will you help me to go see my god?"

Saber-tooth tiger continued to disguise his voice and said, "I will do no such thing because saber-tooth tiger is the greatest in all the lands and is bigger, and stronger, and has much larger teeth than me. Perhaps you should go to sleep for a bit and rest so that your leg can get better. I will watch and protect you until you wake."

Now forest spirit Mochakto knew that it was saber-tooth tiger who was talking to her and his response made her even angrier. Even though, his hunting skills were fine, he was still relying on deceit in order to get his food. She pretended to go to sleep and braced herself for when he would attack.

Saber-tooth tiger crouched down really low and waited for roan deer to fall asleep. When he thought she had, he pounced at her and opened his jaws wide so that he could stab her with his long front teeth. Forest spirit Mochakto transformed into a hawk and flew away before he could stab her. Saber-tooth tiger could not stop his attack and crashed into the large rock she had been in front of. His large, sharp teeth got stuck in the rock and he could not pull them out.

Mochakto looked down upon him in her hawk form and a radiant light made her glow. "You are stupid, saber-tooth tiger. No longer will you keep my creatures from me, for now you will no longer have long, sharp front teeth. Your cocky attitude displeases me."

All of the animals of the forest came to see Mochakto in the clearing with the great rock, and when they saw saber-tooth tiger they laughed and mocked him. Saber-tooth tiger was so embarrassed that he pulled away from the rock and left his front teeth there, running into the mountains. Ever since the wild cats in the mountains have not had large front teeth and have been solitary animals.

MORAL: Don't be cocky or pick on those smaller than you.

We all know there had to be a cheesy moral at the end in order for it to be a proper creation story. Anyways, hope you enjoyed!
