You Take Life For Granted But They Don’t

You go to a window
To pick up burgers and fries
While what little they have
Is covered with flies

Your clothes are new
In many bright colors
But they have so few
That are donated by others

The doctor is there
When you need to go
But they have to wait in long lines
And sometimes he doesn’t show

You get a shot in your arm
Without a second thought
While they die every day
From something as simple as a cough

You drink anything you want
From milk to soda to beer
And all they have is dirty water
That you would never step near

You take a photograph
Of a bird in the wild
But that very same bird
Will attack their smallest child

As they waste away
You’ll just stuff your face
And complain that life never goes your way
But they never stop smiling while they hold onto pain
And stay thankful that they’re alive for one more day
