Why can’t I love you?

Three words, so simple, so complex

You say them to me

But I can’t respond

I know you love me

But it’s like I’ll break if I tell you I do too

Deserving

But I just can’t

And it’s wrong and I know it and all

One day perhaps

I’ll tell you

But it will be too late

You may be gone when I come to my senses

I can’t say it

But I can write it here where your eyes are safe
