A/N: This poem was inspired by a really beautiful piece of fanart that I found over at a HP community on LJ. It's a portrayal of Lily Evans and Severus Snape; though the ship is a bit unconventional, the picture speaks volumes. Here's the link if you want to check it

Just add periods in the spaces; fictionpress wouldn't let me paste the entire thing as a link.

Inertia seized the oak-

A sleeping sickness of a limber biology.

And while she shone against the vanilla landscape

He tried to embody the hero

He could never be.

Tides of unsteady crimson

Flowed before her shoulders,

Propelled by the pump of pale legs

And the afterthought of a subtle wind.

Her badge of suspected virtue

Provided little comfort

And freckled lips ached to taste

The baptism of a tangled temptation.

Experience had assassinated defensive ignorance;

Leaves wilted and mourned at her bare feet

Along with a fallen state of grace.

Her emotions conquered the silence

With perfect indifference.

His sinister conscience wished to

Fly across her collarbones and manically extinguish

The defiant steps of her contradicting pulse-

He could not have loved her more.

Lanky fingers ate the lining of his palm.

Her beauty would eventually become his undoing,

But he selected the morphine with a delirious grin.

He imagined her spine, running its course beneath the rumpled

Barricade of her shirt.

Together in connective distance,

Bound with endearing loneliness,

He indulged in the short view from heaven

Before The Devil knew he had died.
