Evening star

Each and every moonlit night

You would take me and hold me tight

We would walk hand in hand

Through that dark, distant, strange land

The forest has so many haunted trees

But I knew you would never abandon me

Your face glittered with its holy glow

As the moon shone oh so low

I felt safe under your gaze

Even though I know I was seeing through a haze

What I feared most was the splinter of dawn

When I knew you would be soon gone

I remember one night you said with such care

“I’m your evening star, even if you cant see me I’m still there”

I wait by the edge of the forest every sunset

Like I have since the very day we met

But you don’t come now, and I wonder why

So I look up to the deep, rich, starry sky

And yell “oh my evening star!”

“How could you be such a liar!?”

I know Ill be forever bound to your light

I know I will wait until the day I die.
