A Love Unrequited

By Lauren Parker

I know you don’t know, but…

It’s all on you
The way I always feel blue
When you carelessly brew
These emotions that push through

Without a second thought
You make me distraught
And while you care not
For you I have a soft spot.

It stabs like a knife
When I look at real life
To see that these feelings inside me
To you are nothing more than a flea

While they grow so big
That I know I’ll soon burst
You sit and snap me like a twig
When your interest thirsts

Constantly I feel small
And on the inside so bruised
Unprotected and mauled
While you smile, so amused

But like a drug
You have me hooked
I just can’t overlook
How deep I am
In a love unrequited

Imprisoned by a thing
That my heart won’t let go
Knowing I’ll never let it out
Because I’m trapped by all this doubt

After this I will stop
But it’s this I must say
I love you
But I’ll never be so brave

And this love unrequited

Forever shall remain
