Names

I can name a thousand names.
Only a few mean something to me.
Four mean the world to me.
One means my heart.
A couple mean my comfort zone.
Of some I cannot part.

Each defines one person.
With ten letters you spell me out.
These letters are my barcode.
They always cause me doubt.
Define me with them as you may.

People start wars over names.
Names of people.
And names die in war.
You no longer say them without sorrow.
But with the thought of gore.

They can be simple, sweet, or sound.
Some long and confusing.
Others used in schmoozing.
And layered beneath the text is emotion.
Your feeling grasps hold each letter.
Let it be love, hate, or indifference.
Is it for the worse of better?
