Born in Asia, Raised in Africa,

Spirits alike skins of different color,

A layer of skin less than this line,

A surface impression all that separates us,

An uncontrolled chemical scribed by God

Irrelevant issue by which we are measured

A dot of white in a sea of black,

A splash of green in vivid orange,

Born in one culture brought up in another,

Raised in one area to serve in the other,

Errant in one because of my color,

Awkward in one for ignorance of culture,

Races apart but soul of my brother,

Can’t change the one, won’t erase the other,

Sometimes I forget the color of my skin and for a while am content till some ignorant mind makes a racist comment or some social blunder due to the amalgamation of my two cultures, cant fit into the one I was raised in or the one I was born in. Who am I? Where am I going?
