The Battle In My Heart
The sun was shining bright,
Yet my heart foretold the storm.
I prepared my ship but as it came,
I soon would see it was a hurricane.
---
The tempestuous battle had been held at bay,
Yet soon would test me in every way.
How could I have known the test,
Would strip away my best,
And the more I fought to stay alive,
A bit of me would slowly die.
---
How I longed to abandon ship,
But my hands would not let go,
And so I took each hit,
Refusing surrender to my foe.
---
My stubborn pride had clouded,
The truth that would set me free,
For me heart so long had doubted,
And hope I couldn’t see.
---
The waves of pain,
Were finally wearing me down.
While all the things I once thought gain,
Had become a thorny crown.
---
Falling down onto my knees,
Crying out, I heard God say to me,
“Everything is possible for him who believes,”
And immediately He calmed the sea.
---
Rising to my feet again,
I thank the Lord for His mercy,
And looking back at where I’d been,
Saw the truth had set me free.
