Amy’s Secret
Near river bend where the stream runs clear
I caught a secret that I couldn’t say.
It greened the rocks.
It brought the air to chill.
It caused the trees to rot,
And splinter in crosses upon the ice.
It warmed the earth,
And melted sorrow away.
Near river bend where the stream runs clear
I caught a secret that I now can say.
The winter came,
And with it she departed.
An icy rock
Had signed it for her.
Spring has come and still they do not know
Of Amy’s secret, frozen in the snow.
