It seems

we were always perfect strangers

nameless faces on the streets and

unfamiliar voices rising

we were always unacquainted bodies

creating a crowd and misplaced souls

sharing only the sights and flavors

of a common reality.

it seems we look into each others eyes

and have never seen anything

but our own reflections. Now

our past is buried beneath change and

obligation and we have surrendered

our history

to a world of cruelty and chaos.

The charm of distance became overrated

our talks became few and far between

and soon you were my perfect stranger.

Letters are our souvenirs from

what was supposed to last forever

but ended too soon leaving

remnants of our hearts behind.

We have our memories and our pictures

but the truth is

we couldn’t recognize each other if we tried. Because

we have come and gone and each sunrise

brings a change of heart and mind.

It seems we were always so

distant

It seems we have never known each other by face

or by name

And it seems that you

were always my perfect stranger.
