Life's Interlude

Chapter 8

So sue me, I like being nomadic. I like not having to worry about day-to-day responsibilities, if I left the stove on, how I'm going to afford gas and groceries. I like this life. I'm not committed to anyone or anything beyond good old Mother Nature, to whom I have the utmost respect. It took me a couple months but I, Finneaus T. Devoux, have finally arrived in Virginia. “The birthplace of presidents” For you history buffs out there, I, on the other hand, could care less about what tight-assed man was born here that later went on to 'make this country a better place for all people'.

A few dogwood trees were still hanging onto their flowers, despite the once pretty branches becoming brown and decay-ish from winter's icy grip. They were frozen like that until the time when spring would come and free them once again. Flowering trees always have had such a sad existence, but I don't very much care to brood on that. Weather permitting I'll probably be passing through here for a few months, it's a rather long walk from where I am. I'll know my journey's halfway over when I reach Richmond, which I believe is the capital. I really do not know, and nor do I care. Pretty as this place is with it's mountains and cities I still feel like I need to put some distance between me and D.C.

“Kody, are you sure you want to do this?” Kat asked him for the millionth time as he pulled on a thick jacket and tied his fur-lined boots. He merely nodded.
“Kat, I've told you once, I've told you a hundred times. If I'm ever going to connect with him, get him to see me the way I see him, then I've got to do this.”
She sighed. “I know, but Kody... Why not just take a bus until you're close to him?”

“Because, sis, I wouldn't be able to ask anyone if they've seen him, now would I?”

Again, she sighed. “Honestly, how do you know he didn't take the bus himself? He made quite a bit of money working for momma.”

Kody smirked, giving her a 'peace' sign with his two fingers. “Because, a bus would go against that whole hobo-pride thing he had going on.”

Once again, she sighed. “But Kodyyyy... How do you even know he'll remember you? Even care about you?”

He shrugged. “I don't. I'm just hoping he hasn't forgotten me.”

Skitty's Corner: Well, sorry for the delay in this. I've gotten new internet and so I should be able to post more frequently when I get the writing bug again. Hope you enjoy!
