Four-Letter Words

You were so full of four-letter words
While I so desperately clung
To my three syllable deference.
I had so much asphyxiating perfection
That your black-eyed insurrection
Was exactly what I was looking for.

Peel away your insecurities
And scream them to the world,

Was what you told me.
Shred your mask of guard-rail affection
And just let somebody love you…

And I had someone in mind.

Leading hard-rock revolutions
With one hand on the steering wheel
And the other on my heart,
You said, Paint your impurities with a smile
And together...
We'll take on the world.

With eyes as soft as shadows
And a heart as hard as steel
I should've known that you were made for
Destruction.

You had such an earsplitting personality,
Shouting damnations to strangers
And whispering things that I can never repeat;
But when I asked you if you loved me
The silence was truly deafening…

You were so full of four-letter words
And isn't it ironic that the only one that you left out
Was the one that I desperately needed to hear…
