All those times you promised me

That you would be there.

It's not that you broke your promise;

It's that life, to you, wasn't fair.

All of that frustration

Hidden behind your eyes.

I know you didn't mean it

When life fell through your tries.

For ten whole years, you sat around,

Watching the world go by.

I guess we all somehow knew

That it would soon be time to say "Good-bye".

Now that you're gone, I guess I'm okay.

In some ways it's for the best.

All your pain is finally gone.

For the first time, you can truly rest.

While you're gone, we're all upset,

But in some ways almost glad.

It's not that you broke your promise;

It's that time wasn't ours to be had.

Now that you're gone, I just wait,

And try to see around the bend.

And yet, as we wait to see you again,

I also wait for another happy weekend.

When I see you again, I cannot wait,

And I just imagine what we'll do.

Camping, fishing, rifle-shooting,

And the stories long overdue.

But now we must all carry on,

And try to get through our lives.

I guess it's true what you said,

The strong hearts do survive.

So now the time has come at last

For time only zips by.

The only thing that I regret,

Is not giving you a final good-bye.
