I Meant To Tell You I Love You

Tim O'Brien is a genius.

If, after writing this short poem, I tell you that it is truth (not true, exactly, just truth)

I will be using the same logic that makes Tim O'Brien a genius.

Did you mean it?

Are you honest?

Will you be gone when I come home?

I promised I'd be back -

Will you still love me while I'm away?

A poem typically consists of various types of artistic patterns

that attempt to convey an emotion.

My short poem conveys a

sense of longing or loss

and the anxiety of not knowing

what to expect as a result of

some unexplained event.

That is truth behind those words. The poem itself is not in fact true.

No one promised they'd still love me if I left.

He didn't say I love you at all.
