Beauty Winked My Breath Goodbye
It wasn’t long
Before her breath
Came crashing down,
Three heartbeats left,
I held her there,
A dead corpse in my arms.
She looked at me,
I looked away,
Her lips formed words
That I brushed away:
With a tender kiss
I knew what she meant to say.
If you were here in this world
I call my own,
Where my happiness left
So long ago,
Where the skies are black,
And my eyes are gray,
Where the dead don’t belong,
But they’re here to stay,
I’d paint silly words
Across your brow,
The kind of thoughts
That I dream of now.
And we’d live together,
All on our own.
Two hearts and one life
Could become our home.
If you were in this world
I call my own,
Where my happiness left
So long ago,
I would kiss all your tears
Off your pale, bruised cheeks,
For you’re the one thing
That my cold heart seeks.
