Kiss Him
Author's Note - Yeah, another short story to tide you over 'til I get around to finishing The Four Seasons - Autumn. Bet you forgot about that one...I know I did for a while. But I'm working on it, I promise. Uh, also, this one could use some work. PLEASE, let me know what can be fixed and if you've got suggestions, please let me know. I WANT TO MAKE THIS BETTER! I'm not like those people who are like "oh you're just jealous, my work is perfect, it couldn't possibly get any better!". Well I know it needs work so comment away! Please!
“Come on! It’s a dare, you have to do it!” Shayna exclaimed. I glanced over at Brendan, who looked as shocked at the dare as I felt.
“This is stupid. You and Mariel wouldn’t kiss when I dared you!” Brendan argued. Shayna just waved her hand at him dismissively.
“That’s different. And besides, you’re only allowed to skip one dare, and Caleb already did that when Dante dared you to sing and dance to ‘Oops I Did It Again’,” Mariel pointed out, gathering her dark brown hair in a ponytail as she spoke.
“And I would have loved to see that!” Dante exclaimed.
“I only refused to do it because I didn’t think you could come up with anything worse!” I replied.
“Oh give it up!” Shayna said, “It’s only for a minute,”
“A minute! You said thirty seconds before!”
“I changed my mind,” she said, “and if you keep arguing, it’ll be longer!” she added when I opened my mouth. I closed it quickly, thinking about my options. I could get up and leave, but then Dante, Shayna and Mariel would call me a homophobe and constantly tell me that I wasn’t secure enough in my masculinity to kiss another guy for a dare for one minute. Never mind the fact that the guy was my best friend, the one I’d shared nearly every secret with – except for the one where I realized I was gay and that he was the one I had a crush on. But I wasn’t about to tell him that now.
“Fine, I’ll do it,” I said with a sigh. Mariel clapped her hands together and Shayna got up and grabbed her handheld video camera from her desk.
“Whoa, what the hell is that for?” Brendan asked. I wanted to know the same thing. Videotaping was not part of the original dare.
“I want to record this moment for posterity,” Shayna explained.
“No fucking way!” I argued, “You wouldn’t go filming Dante and his boyfriend, would you?” Dante was the gay guy in our group of friend – or the out gay one. And out he was, always wearing outrageous clothing, eyeliner, and lipstick a few times. I told myself that if I ever came out I would not be that kind of gay.
“Well if Dante had a boyfriend,” Mariel said, looking over at Dante. He shoved her playfully, but he looked a little depressed. The poor guy hadn’t had anyone since his first boyfriend, Asshole, also known as Aaron, who we did not talk about. Ever.
“Aw, come on it’s not like you and Brendan are together or anything. We all know it’s just a dare,” Shayna pointed out. Yeah, thanks for reminding me.
“Well how do I know you aren’t going to post this where the whole school can see it?” I challenged. Brendan raised his eyebrows, looking interested in her response.
“I’ve lived next door to your for eighteen years, don’t you trust me?” she asked, giving me that innocent grin that I knew was anything but.
“Fuck you,”
“No thanks, I don’t really like blondes.” She smiled pleasantly.
“The sooner you do it, the sooner it’s over with!” Mariel sing-songed. Brendan looked as nervous about this as I felt.
“Okay, could you hurry it up a bit? There’s only an hour before Shayna’s mom is going to make us leave,” Dante pointed out.
“Fine, fine,” I grumbled, and slid over next to Brendan. His cheeks were turning pink and my heart pounded faster. Please, oh please let me not screw this up. With that thought I leaned forward, eyes closed, and touched my lips to his.
“Start the countdown!” I heard Mariel say. I ignored them and gently coaxed Brendan’s mouth open with my own. At first there was no response but he relaxed and opened his mouth, allowing me to slide my tongue in. I braced myself with my hands on his thighs, letting myself just enjoy this one moment in time. Brendan’s hand came up to grip my upper arm and he tilted his head, sliding his tongue against mine.
“Ooh, getting hot and heavy!” Dante exclaimed. I moved my arms to his neck and brought myself closer, still kissing, exploring his mouth with my tongue.
“Minute’s over,” Shayna announced and reluctantly I pulled away.
“I’m sorry,” I told Brendan softly, apologizing for the fact that I’d kissed him so passionately…that our first kiss (and probably our last) had to be with a video camera and three of our friends watching.
“Whatever.” He shrugged it off and I swore that I could see him smashing my heart on the floor. Trying to hide my disappointment, I went back to my spot in the circle, between Dante and Shayna.
“You did pretty well for a straight guy,” Dante said, “any chance you’d turn gay for me?” he joked.
“You’re just not my type, Dante,” I told him, and the others laughed. The game continued, but all I could think about was the kiss, and whether Brendan had enjoyed it, whether our friendship was ruined now. I had to talk to him…thankfully we’d made plans for me to spend the night at his house after Shayna’s birthday party was done.
The rest of the party was uneventful, especially compared to the kiss with Brendan. Then it was time for us to leave. After wishing Shayna a happy birthday and waving goodbye to Dante, Brendan and I walked to his car. He started the car up and we pulled out of the driveway.
“Do you still want to stay over? Because I can bring you home if you want,” Brendan said. Did I ruin things that much? Does he never want to talk to me again?
“I, um, I want to talk to you,” I replied, willing my voice to remain calm, “and afterwards you can decide if you still want me to stay at your house or not. Is that okay?”
“That’s fine.” I didn’t know if it was just my imagination, but Brendan’s voice sounded strained. At that moment I wished that I could read his mind. I wanted to know what he was thinking, what he thought about us.
Thankfully the ride to Brendan’s house was short and I did not have to face the awkward silence for long.
“Mom, it’s me and Caleb,” Brendan said when we walked in the house. His mom was sitting on the couch with his younger sister, Kayla, watching a movie.
“Try not to be too loud upstairs, Simon is sleeping,” she told us. Brendan nodded and we tiptoed up the stairs, into Brendan’s bedroom at the top of the stairs. He shut the door behind us and flicked the light on. The trundle bed was already set up, thanks to his mom, and my bag was sitting on top of it.
“What did you want to talk about?” Brendan asked, sitting down on his bed.
“I think you know,” I answered, suddenly wishing I’d just gone home.
“So you kissed me. It was a fucking dare Caleb, it didn’t mean anything. And you apologize, so what’s the fucking deal?” he asked.
“I apologized that the kiss had to be with everyone watching. I would have liked to have been able to kiss you when I wanted to…and only when you were willing.” My face was heating up with this confession, and I was afraid of Brendan’s reaction. But at least I’d gotten it out. I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping it a secret any more.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Brendan exclaimed, “Why would you apologize for that? Did you see me objecting?” he asked. I opened my mouth but couldn’t form words. Was he saying what I thought he was saying?
“I…what are you saying?”
“God dammit Caleb, are you really that stupid? I didn’t realize that blond stereotype was true.” He sighed, “I wanted you to kiss me, okay? I liked it. And when you apologized I thought I was going to die. Did you really mean it when you said you wanted me to be willing when we kiss again? Because I’m ready and willing now, and I’m going to kiss you in about thirty seconds whether you like it or not, so you’d better stop me if you don’t want this,” he said, and took a second to look at me before pushing me on my back on the bed and pressed his mouth on mine. My only ‘argument’ was to flip us over so he was on his back and I was on top. Then he coaxed my mouth open and stuck his tongue inside my mouth like he was going to die if he couldn’t lick the roof of my mouth. I responded to this by sucking on his tongue, which caused a moan to come from Brendan, and he arched up. And then I remembered about air and breathing and I pulled my mouth away from his.
“Damn, that was even better than the first one,” Brendan replied with a grin, sneaking a hand up my shirt. I wriggled a bit at his cold touch but he slid his hand up my side and I leaned in, resting my weight on him, tucking my head underneath his chin.
“Mm, maybe you should change out of those jeans before getting too comfortable,” Brendan said.
“Mm,” I replied, not really wanting to move.
“Or you could sleep like that and wake up with those weird marks on your stomach from the buttons,” he added.
“Fine, fine,” I grumbled, and pushed myself off the bed. Brendan propped himself up on his elbow and watch me slip my jeans off. Yes, I was blushing.
“So, does this mean we’re like, boyfriends?” he asked as I struggled to pull my sweatpants on while standing up and not leaning on anything.
“It’d better,” I replied, finally managing to pull my sweatpants on all the way, “are you going to change into pajamas?” I asked, noting that he’d hadn’t moved at all.
“I suppose I should,” he said, and got up. I unbuttoned my shirt and slipped on a t-shirt while Brendan changed and pulled back the covers of his bed. I looked at him, and at the trundle bed and then back at Brendan. Amused, he flicked off the lights, climbed into the bed and stared back at me. I saw him through the moonlight reflected in the window. If it was possible he looked even more attractive.
“Well?” he asked, “there’s plenty of room up here!” he said, grinning. I climbed over the trundle bed and Brendan scooted over, allowing me to slide in next to him.
“For once I have to thank Shayna,” Brendan said as I rested my head on his chest.
“The one and only time,” I answered, “now shut up, I wanna go to sleep.”
“I love you,” he murmured, tucking an arm around me. I froze for a second, realizing what he’d just said. He loves me?
“I love you too,” I whispered back.
- The End -
Epilogue Thingy - At Shayna’s House
“So, you think it worked?” Mariel asked as she slipped under the covers of the sleeping bag on the floor of Shayna’s bedroom.
“It better have worked,” Shayna replied, sighing, “because I am sick and tired of seeing them moon over each other.”
“I wonder what they’re doing right now,” Mariel asked, “too bad we can’t videotape that!” she added.
“Mariel, you perv!” Shayna giggled.
“Hey, it was your idea to videotape them! We should watch the tape before we erase it.”
“Mm yeah,” was Shayna’s only response as she rolled over and fell asleep.
- The REAL end -
Author's Note - if I ever feel like it I could do a sequel about Dante. Dunno though. And I picked names like Mariel and Dante because I realized I haven't used any really weird names in a while, and I wanted to have weird names for these characters, especially since it's just a short story. Thought I would comment. Well, I hope you enjoyed it, let me know what can be fixed! Thanks!
Also, the idea for this story came while I was watching videos on YouTube...in one this group of girls dared their straight guy friends to kiss...and the guys seemed to get really into it...hee hee. So I had to write this.
