Leaves Fall
My hand was empty as I felt through long dark nights.
I closed the blinds and I emerged
just a little more
alive.
The house is empty with a deadlock on the door.
My cure lay waiting in severed ties
from familial civil war.
He painted lips on all the faces without smiles,
lit a candle just to see
where I went
blind.
We toured a world that he had missed for many months.
Just the time it took for him to learn to love.
He wears an invisible crown
as grave as history.
That he lifts me too
makes me happier than I can say.
And so it shall be written
in the story of my life.
Explanations and apologies we’d trade.
Just enough for when
I felt my vision
fade.
The letter written was a story of its’ own
of very briefly shattered confidence I’d grown.
I thought I felt my hand rise as pages burned.
The chapter ended,
and to darkness I’d
returned.
But there he was to break the oath that I had made.
He filled my hand with doubt for once…
to be too many times betrayed.
With his eyes he says ‘look deeper’.
I look to him and then
mine flutter open
to meet with bliss on little wings.
Leaves fall with the rise of kings
in the story of my life.
More a part of me with every moment that we spend.
I won the lottery.
I rich without a
cent.
We toured the world that made the months all pass me by.
Just the time it took for me to learn to fly.
I closed my eyes, and I emerged
just a little more.
Alive.
