To the Clouds

“Away, away,” to the clouds I say,

“I want to relive that sunny day,

When no more did I hear the gray wolf bay,

When I knew at once that it was safe to play.”

“The hour, the power, the incredible might

That was in the Lord’s hand, incredibly bright,

I smile and watch, as no more do men fight,

And as I sit, my heart feels so very light.”

“But I won’t see that day, the way chances stand,

But oh how I pray for peace in this land,

And all others, too, that they may strike up the band

And men, brothers all, can all join hands.”

The clouds smile back with astounding great ease

It seems to me that they’re easy to please

Infused with their strength, I will no longer freeze,

And I will change the world’s vision; make it see what I see.

Come throw down your steel, unload your gun,

Throw them into this pyre, and you’ve only begun;

Now forget why you needed them, and then tell your sons,

“No longer we fight! No longer we run!”

From fields of bright green, to deserts of brown,

From every city, to every small town,

I will see them all, and more if time will allow

Asking for peace, running with both mutts and hounds.

I feel no more passion, no more great fear,

I just let my message of peace peal across every ear!

“Come, men and women, and children so dear,

Let us stop fighting or our end is near!”
