Drowning.

We were only going home,

Our backs were turned

To the fight and death.

In our relief,

We were lax.

Our downfall.

Jumping to stations –

Over bodies –

Through water.

Silence.

Hit.

Fire.

Darkness.

Ice cold.

Choppy waves.

Lost forever.

Sweethearts sunk.

We never made it home.
