Life went on as the next months flew by. Taylor decided she was going to keep the baby and Brayden was ecstatic. Aunt Sophia wasn’t too happy with her decision at first but eventually gave Taylor her support.
Brayden and Taylor attended school and of course news got around about the baby. The entire school had isolated them and it actually made it easier on Brayden and Taylor.
They went to her doctor for the regular tests. It came as quite a shock when the doctor told them they were having twins. When he asked them if they wanted to know the sex of the babies, they both said no. They already had bets on it, and wanted to wait until the birth. Aunt Sophia hated that they bet on their children, and said that the babies were not a game. Taylor told her to lighten up, and eventually she joined in on the bet.
Every night Brayden sang to the babies. Taylor never knew what a good voice Brayden had, but now that she knew she loved when he sang. Every night Brayden would sing the average lullabies. One night he decided to have some fun. He broke out some Marvin Gaye.
“Listen Baby...
Ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low
Ain't no river wide enough baby
If you need me call me
no matter where you are
no matter how far (don't worry baby)
just call my name
I'll be there in a hurry
you don't have to worry
'Cause baby there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe”
It made Taylor giggle, but her smile quickly turned to a wince.
"Baby, are you ok?" Brayden asked concerned. Taylor moaned and grabbed her stomach.
"Bray…Bray, we gotta go." she told him between breaths. Brayden's mouth dropped and he froze. He'd been preparing himself for this moment since the day he found out about the pregnancy.
"Owww…. Brayden!" Taylor's cry of pain unfroze Brayden and he leaped up from the bed.
"Ok…don't panic, don't freak out…" he was saying to himself as he grabbed his shoes and the duffel bag they had packed. "Alright baby…c'mon,” he said as he ran out the door. It took about 5 seconds for him to come running back into the room. "Baby I'm so sorry…sheesh, I remember everything except for Taylor. I'm such an idiot."
Taylor smirked as Brayden picked her up. He walked down the hallway and screamed to Sophia.
"She's having the babies! She's having the babies!" Sophia opened her door in record time.
"WHAT! Oh my goodness. She is." Sophia was in her nightgown with her curlers in.
"Umm…I guess we'll meet you there." Brayden said and Sophia nodded.
Taylor moaned and Brayden continued down the stairs. He put her into the car and sprinted to his door. He helped her with her seatbelt and put his on as fast as he could. The hospital was about and hour away, so he drove as fast as he could while being safe.
As he drove he held her hand, and tried to soothe her pain. He went around a corner, and his heart stopped. There was a car on his side of the road, and before he knew it he felt his seatbelt lock and the sound of screeching tires filled his ears. When the other car hit them, his head hit the wheel and he was knocked completely unconscious.
When he came around he heard Taylor moaning "my baby…please, help my babies." Brayden looked over at her and she was crying. He reached over and grabbed her hand letting her know he was with her. “Don’t worry honey we are going to get through this.” he tried to move only to feel a sharp pain shoot through his leg… it was broken.
He moaned in pain as he squeezed Taylor’s hand.
“Brayden…the babies…we have to get out of here.” Taylor said with fear in her eyes.
Brayden didn’t know what to do. He could barely move because of his leg yet he knew somehow he had to get Taylor out of the car.
“Taylor you need to listen to me…my leg is broken but im going to try and get out while im doing that unbuckle your seat belt and try to open the door. I’ll get you out first and then I’m going to check the person we hit, maybe they will have a cell phone or something.”
Taylor nodded and let go of Brayden’s hand so she could unbuckle her seatbelt. She could hear Brayden moaning while she tried to open her door.
When she heard him basically scream she couldn’t bring her self to look and instead doubled her forces to get her door open.
Brayden was able to get his door open easily. I t was the getting him out of the car that was the hard part. He leaned out the door and was able to slip out of the car but his leg was stuck. He screamed as he pulled it free. Unable to stand right away Brayden started to crawl to the other side of the car.
Taylor was still unsuccessful with getting her door open; she just didn’t have the strength. She turned to see how Brayden was doing to see that he was gone. “Brayden!” she screamed. “BRAYDEN!”
“What,” a wincing Brayden said pulling the door open. “C’mon lets get out of here.”
He grabbed Taylor’s hands and helped her out of the car.
“Taylor I need you to go sit on the side of the road. I’m going to check on the other driver - if someone comes tell them to get help.”
Taylor went and sat on the side of the road like Brayden told her to. She watched him as he moved towards the other car. His pants were blood soaked and he could barely walk. To Taylor it seemed like she was sitting there for hours when it was only minutes before Brayden sat down next to her. She looked up to see Brayden paled. “What’s wrong?”
“They’re dead….” He said putting his head in his hands.
Brayden and Taylor held hands during the ride to the hospital. After another hour of waiting by their wrecked car someone had finally come along. Taylor was in a tremendous amount of pain as they were waiting and Brayden wasn’t sure if she or their babies would make it. The ride was far from silent as Taylor screamed out in agony.
Brayden tried everything he could to help her but it was obvious that they needed a doctor and fast.
When they reached the hospital Brayden asked the man to call the police and tell them what had happened and to send someone out to where they had crashed. Then he picked Taylor up and walked her into the hospital. “HELP! Someone please help me.” Brayden said as he ran into the emergency room.
A nurse ran up to him with a wheelchair and had him place Taylor in it. “What’s happened?” she asked.
“Well she’s pregnant and on the way here we were hit by a car… that was about and hour and thirty minutes ago. Please she’s hurt and our babies, oh god our babies.”
“Don’t worry sir we will do everything we can. Normally you would be allowed in the delivery room, but because of your blood loss and the broken leg, I’m going to send another nurse out to take care of you”
“What about my babies…what about Taylor…. are they going to be ok…. I can’t leave them alone… “ Brayden said trying to follow the direction they had taken Taylor.
“Sir please, we are going to do everything we can….” the nurse said but Brayden was starting to become frantic. “Look if you don’t sit down right now I will be forced to give you a sedative.” Brayden looked at the nurse and knew there was nothing he could do until after he was worked on.
“Sorry…” Brayden said sheepishly sitting down.
“Ok, now wait here. I’m going to go get a wheelchair and then we will get you all patched up so you can help your wife.” The nurse said before walking away. She returned shortly and Brayden moved into the wheelchair. He was being pushed into one of the hospital rooms when he remembered Sophia.
“Nurse can you page Sophia Walker, she’s Taylor’s aunt and was supposed to meet us here. If I can’t be in the delivery room at least she can.” The nurse smiled and nodded her head and walked out.
Sophia was waiting in the maternity ward when she heard her name over the loud speaker. “Why on earth am I being called to the ER?” she asked her self.
The nurse that had taken care of Brayden was waiting for her.
“Uh, hi im Sophia Walker, someone just said my name over the loudspeaker…”
“Hi Mrs. Walker, Taylor and Brayden were recently just arrived…they were in a car accident. Taylor is fine but a little banged up and is in the delivery room right now. Brayden has a broken leg and has lost a good amount of blood. I was told to ask you to go into the delivery room with Taylor. Brayden figured since he couldn’t help her at least you could.”
Sophia agreed to go into the delivery room and the nurse led her to Taylor.
Taylor was in a large white room when the nurse brought Sophia in. The nurse explained to her how, because of Brayden’s state, he would not be allowed into the delivery room. Sophia grabbed Taylor’s hand and then Taylor’s doctor walked into the room with two nurses. He sat down and examined Taylor and then looked up at her.
“All right Taylor,” he said smiling. “ You’re fully dilated... when I say so I want you to push.”
It was a long delivery and hard on Taylor to deliver her twins. Sophia helped by talking to Taylor and calming her down, saying how Brayden would be so proud of her. Taylor was exhausted by the time the delivery was over. She laughed when the nurses put her babies in her arms.
“Figures… one boy, one girl. Brayden is going to love this.”
She was lying in the bed holding the babies and Brayden started laughing when he noticed one in a blue blanket and one in a pink blanket.
“Guess we broke even huh sweetie.” he said with amusement in his voice.
