Four to Six Times a Day

This is not enough.

The waiting for phone calls
that never come, unsent
emails, the token letters
of “you’re-not-good-enough” ilk.

Don’t settle. Always my motto.

I wonder now if I’ll have to
eat my words, force them
down my throat like
alcoholic cough syrup,
and if I’ll gag on the taste.

I’ve heard of the sound
of settling – I wonder
if the bitter iron of Nyquil
would be the taste.
