Depression is.

Hard to define if you aren’t intimately acquainted.

Depression is when you want to cry or scream or beat your fists against something, but all you can do is sit there feeling helpless.

Depression is having an empty space inside your ribcage (—or your skull?—) that is hollow and uncomfortable and not knowing how to make it disappear.

Depression is a deep dissatisfaction, a doubt in every molecule of your body. Such that it renders you incapable of accomplishing the things you doubt your ability to do and turns you into an ironic prophet of your own weakness.

Depression is wondering, distantly, if there really is a point. Right before you take the plunge.

Depression is fear.

Depression is pain.

Depression is apathy.

Depression is anger.

Depression is bitterness.

But most of all, it just…is.
