“How will you Live”
A pregnant teenage girl on the
side of the road
with her belongings on her back,
and a thumbs up sign,
I’m guessing that’s not an over view of her life.
You can see her heart through her eyes.
A solider, my father
wakes up in a trailer
in the middle of the desert,
awakened by and exploding bomb.
He thinks of his dead father,
and his mom and siblings
who haven’t talked to him since he left
Then he thinks about his three kids
and wife he left at home.
A girl of age fourteen
sits in her room and
cries.
As her mother screams
and drinks another one.
She thinks of her father
and how she hasn’t seen him,
and how he doesn’t care.
A girl of age six.
Wakes up with a strange man over her,
his hands in her pants.
Now she knows nothing
later she will find out
how bad he hurt her.
And that the one precious thing she owns
is gone to a strange, perverted man.
Tell me how are we
to go on in this world of hurt?
What are we to do when we look down the street
and on every passing face
all we see is pain?
We can do what the
Homeless, pregnant, teen did
Take her life and her unborn child’s.
or
We can do what my father did
and get out of bed,
do exactly everything we can in life,
and Get over our problems,
and help the world like the geniuses we are.
or
We can do what the fourteen-year-old
with the alcoholic mother and
ignorant father did.
Open her door.
And take care of herself,
become a straight A student,
and a very successful person,
proving her mother wrong.
or
We can do what the grown up
Six-year-old did
Try to forget
And live a lie.
I choose to be like my father.
Accepting problems.
Moving on.
And doing what I can
to help the world.
But enough about me
What about you?
