Stormy

By: Robyn Ritchie

Gavin watched with blank eyes as the storm outside raged on, much like the storm inside his head. Just a few minutes ago, he had seen Anthony and Lacy break their kiss and part ways—Lacy to go back home and Anthony to stay out in the street and taunt Gavin with his beauty.

The rain fell down in buckets but it seemed that Anthony either didn’t care or was enjoying it. He stood still with his back to Gavin’s house and the window that Gavin meekly peeked out of. The rain fell all over him, causing his black shirt to stick and cling to his body. Gavin pushed the curtains aside to get a better look when Anthony picked up his skateboard and hopped on.

Gavin thought that maybe his imagination was carrying him away once again but he could’ve sworn that Anthony was moving in slow motion. The way he moved slowly and tactfully on the skateboard and the way the rain still pounded on him and the hot pavement…

So sensual, Gavin thought and immediately wanted to slap himself for it. He’d never thought of that word before, sensual, but all of a sudden it seemed to describe Anthony perfectly.

He continued to stare even when the rain was so hard and thick that he could barely see Anthony. He squinted and finally opened the door onto the patio, letting sheets of rain on his freshly washed pajamas.

“What are you doing?” he called out, cupping his mouth with both hands. He didn’t need to say it that loud, he soon found out, because Anthony had been waiting intently for Gavin to come out.

Anthony turned around and through the rain Gavin could see that grin of his. “Come join me,” he called back.

Gavin pursed his lips. He shut the patio door behind himself as he stepped out onto the covered deck, his clothes a little less than dripping wet. He crossed his arms and shivered as he shook his head indignantly. “No way,” he said, “I can’t wait till you catch a cold!”

Gavin didn’t have to yell that time as Anthony had already traveled the short distance to Gavin’s house and was leaning on the fence, his face and hair all wet. He was still grinning. “I don’t catch colds. You should come out here, it’s nice. Don’t you like the rain?”

“It’s noisy,” Gavin sulked.

Anthony raised an eyebrow and there was a minute’s worth of a pause. “Alright, what’s wrong with you?” he asked finally.

“Nothing. I don’t want to get wet, okay?”

A lightning bolt struck off in the distance and lit the sky with a passionate blue. Anthony heard the thunder shortly after and he had to suppress a moan. “Now you have to come with me,” he said, looking at the horizon longingly. “Come on, before it stops.” He looked back at Gavin and took his hand, pulling on him until his head was no longer under the covering.

“Cut it out!” he yelled. “I don’t want to play with you!” He jerked his hand back and was going to go inside, his hand soon on the doorknob.

Anthony watched his retreating form and whispered, “Suit yourself.” He turned and went back out into the rain as another lightning bolt struck, this time further away.

Gavin looked back for a second when the door was open and saw Anthony once again skating around on the wet gravel. It might have been the rain but Gavin could’ve sworn that for a second he had seen Lacy standing beside Anthony, watching him intently. He unknowingly growled to himself and threw open the gate, running down into the street.

Anthony didn’t have to look up to enjoy the lightning bolt right in front of him.
